Maine pichle hafte Lucknow mein ek Rojgar Mela cover kiya tha. Wahan ka scene dekhne layak tha -- subah 7 baje se launde line mein lage hue the, hath mein file, aankh mein umeed. Koi ITI pass tha, koi B.Tech kiya hua. Sab ek hi cheez chahte the: naukri. Aur yahi baat hai na -- UP mein 10 crore se zyada log kaam dhundh rahe hain, aur sarkar ke paas schemes toh hain, lekin log jaante nahi ki kya available hai, kaise apply karna hai, kaun si scheme unke kaam ki hai. Toh yeh article main specifically isliye likh raha hoon ki ek jagah pe sab mil jaaye.

Let me be honest here. I have been covering government employment schemes for seven years now in Uttar Pradesh, and the situation has changed quite a bit since 2020. Back then, most things were still paper-based. You had to physically go to the district employment office, stand in a queue, fill a form, and hope that someone would call you for an interview three months later. Ab scene different hai. Digital portals aa gaye hain, online registration ho raha hai, aur melas mein direct offer letter mil raha hai. But the confusion is also more because there are so many schemes running at the same time that even educated youth get lost.

Rojgar Mela -- The Ground Reality in 2026

Sabse pehle baat karte hain Rojgar Mela ki, kyunki yeh sabse direct aur sabse fast tarika hai naukri paane ka. Yogi sarkar ka naya plan hai ki har quarter mein, matlab har teen mahine mein, har ek district mein Rojgar Mela lagega. Pehle yeh saal mein do baar hota tha, aur woh bhi selected districts mein. Ab saare 75 districts cover ho rahe hain.

I attended the Varanasi Rojgar Mela in January this year. The turnout was about 12,000 candidates in a single day. Companies like Flipkart, Dabur, Hero MotoCorp, and several local manufacturing units had set up stalls. The Varanasi mela alone resulted in about 1,800 offer letters being handed out on the spot. One boy from Chandauli, Ravi Kumar -- he had done a diploma in electrical engineering from a local ITI -- he got selected by a Noida-based auto parts company at a starting salary of Rs 14,000 per month plus overtime. "Sir, ghar pe papa ko phone karke bataya toh ro pade woh," he told me. This kind of thing happens every mela if you come prepared.

State-wide numbers for the financial year 2025-26 tell the story better. Over 5.8 lakh candidates showed up across all districts. Roughly 1.2 lakh offer letters were given. That is about a 20 percent conversion rate, which honestly is not bad for a free government job fair where you just walk in. The trick is preparation. Bahut log sirf jaate hain, documents nahi lete. Arre bhai, original marksheet chahiye, Aadhaar chahiye, 4-5 passport photos chahiye. Bina documents ke wahan jaane ka koi matlab nahi.

Registration for Rojgar Melas happens through the Seva Yojana portal -- sewayojan.up.nic.in. You make a profile, enter your qualifications, and get alerts when a mela is happening in your district. There is no fee. Class 10 pass se lekar PhD holder tak, sabke liye relevant openings hoti hain. The department releases the list of participating companies about 10 days before each mela, so you can research the companies and go prepared for interviews.

UP Kaushal Vikas Mission -- Training That Actually Leads Somewhere

Ab aate hain UPSDM pe. Look, skill development is one of those things that sounds boring on paper but can actually change someone's life if the training is decent and the placement support is real. Maine Gorakhpur mein ek training centre visit kiya tha pichle saal -- a batch of 30 students was learning CNC machine operation. The trainer was an ex-Tata Motors employee. Six months ka course tha, and by the fifth month, 22 out of 30 already had placement offers. The rest found jobs within two months of completing the course.

UPSDM runs training in over 400 different job roles across 35 sectors. And I am not just talking about IT and computers. There is training for healthcare workers, construction site supervisors, beauticians, plumbers, electricians, food processing operators, banking correspondents, and even drone pilots now. The duration varies -- some courses are 3 months, some go up to a full year depending on how technical the skill is.

The best part? BPL families, SC/ST candidates, and anyone with family income below Rs 2 lakh per year gets the training completely free. Others get a 75 percent subsidy from the government. So even if your family is not exactly poor but not rich either, the out-of-pocket cost is minimal. After training, you get a certificate from NSDC or the relevant Sector Skill Council, which is recognized across India. This means if you train in Bareilly but want to work in Pune, that certificate holds value.

Registration is online at upsdm.gov.in. You pick your sector, choose a job role, select a training centre in your district, and complete Aadhaar verification. Age limit is 18 to 35 years. One thing I always tell people -- choose the job role carefully. Don't just pick whatever is available. Look at which sectors are hiring in your area. If you are near the Noida-Greater Noida industrial belt, pick manufacturing or logistics. If you are in eastern UP, hospitality and food processing are growing fast.

Apprenticeship -- Earn While You Learn, Sach Mein

Apprenticeship is that one scheme which I feel is criminally underused. Most students I talk to have no idea that you can get paid to learn on the job in actual factories and offices. The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) runs across India, but UP has added its own top-up to make it more attractive.

Here is how it works. The central government pays 25 percent of the apprentice's stipend, up to Rs 1,500 per month. The UP government adds another Rs 1,000 on top of that through the UP Apprenticeship Incentive programme that started in 2024. So on top of whatever the company pays you, you get this extra support.

In 2026, over 12,000 establishments in UP are partnered for apprenticeship placements. These include factories in Noida, pharmaceutical companies in Lucknow, textile mills in Kanpur, and food processing units in eastern UP. The apprenticeship period can be anywhere from 6 months to 3 years. ITI pass-outs, diploma holders, graduates, and engineering degree holders all have separate categories they can apply under.

Registration happens at apprenticeshipindia.gov.in. You can filter by state and see all openings specifically in UP. Ek suggestion doonga -- apply to multiple establishments at once. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Maine ek ladke se baat ki Kanpur mein, Suresh naam tha, he applied to 8 companies and got calls from 3. Ended up doing apprenticeship at a leather goods factory and now works there full-time. "Training ke time hi manager ne bol diya tha ki tu yaheen rahega," he said with a grin.

Mukhyamantri Yuva Internship Yojana -- Government Office Mein Kaam Ka Experience

Yeh scheme 2025 mein launch hui thi aur 2026 mein properly expand ho gayi hai. Simple concept hai -- graduates and postgraduates ko state government departments, district collectorate offices, and state PSUs mein paid internship milti hai. 6 mahine ki internship hai aur Rs 10,000 per month stipend milta hai.

Now, Rs 10,000 per month is not going to make anyone rich. But think about what you actually get. You work inside a government office for six months. You understand how files move, how decisions are made, how government machinery functions. Bahut saare UPSC aspirants I have spoken to said this kind of experience is invaluable for their interview preparation. Plus, it looks excellent on your resume when you apply for any government job.

The 2026 cycle has 15,000 positions across all 75 districts. Selection is merit-based -- your college grades matter, and there is an online aptitude test conducted by UPSSSC. Age limit is 21 to 30, you need to be a graduate from a recognized university, and you must be a domicile of UP. Applications open in April and October each year on the UPSSSC portal.

I spoke to Sneha Mishra, who did her internship at the Prayagraj District Collectorate in 2025. She worked in the revenue department. "Pehle mujhe lagta tha ki government office mein log kuch karte nahi hain," she laughed. "Lekin andar jaake dekha toh itna kaam hai ki saans lene ki fursat nahi. Revenue cases, land disputes, farmer grievances -- roz naya kuch sikhti thi." She is now preparing for the PCS exam and says the internship gave her clarity about which department she wants to work in.

Seva Mitra Portal -- Ek Jagah Pe Sab Kuch

The UP government launched the Seva Mitra Portal (sevamitra.up.gov.in) in late 2025, and by now it is fully up and running. Think of it as a one-stop-shop for everything employment-related in UP. Job search, skill development registration, apprenticeship applications, self-employment loan applications, career counselling appointments -- sab ek portal pe.

You create a profile with your qualifications, skills, work experience, and preferred location. The system then recommends job openings -- both sarkari and private -- that match your profile. It also sends you SMS and email alerts. Koi Rojgar Mela aa raha hai aapke district mein? Alert aa jayega. UPSSSC ka koi exam notification aaya? Alert aa jayega.

As of now, 45 lakh job seekers have registered on the portal, and over 28,000 employers are listed. The numbers are growing month by month. I tested the portal myself last week -- registered a dummy profile with a B.Com qualification and Lucknow location. Within 24 hours, I got 7 job recommendations, including 3 from banking and finance companies and 2 from retail chains. Kaam ki cheez hai yeh portal, seriously.

The one thing I would say is that the mobile experience could be better. The website works fine on desktop, but on phone browsers it can be a bit slow. Hopefully the IT team will sort that out. But functionality-wise, there is nothing to complain about.

UPSSSC Recruitment -- The Big One for Group C Jobs

If you are someone who dreams of a sarkari naukri in UP, then UPSSSC is the body you need to keep your eyes on. The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission handles Group C post recruitment, and in 2026, there is a lot happening.

First, the system. UPSSSC now follows a two-tier exam structure. You first need to clear the PET -- Preliminary Eligibility Test. Once you clear PET, you become eligible for all the specific recruitment exams that happen through the year. Think of PET as the entry ticket. Without it, you cannot appear for any UPSSSC recruitment.

PET 2026 is scheduled for June, with the notification expected any day now in March. The exam covers General Hindi, General English, Mathematics, General Awareness, Reasoning, and Indian History. It is an objective-type exam, and you need to score above the cut-off to qualify. Last year's cut-off for General category was around 72 out of 100.

Once you clear PET, here are some of the major recruitments expected in 2026: Junior Assistant, Lekhpal (this one gets lakhs of applicants every time), Gram Vikas Adhikari, Forest Guard, Lab Technician, Homeopathic Pharmacist, and Junior Engineer. My advice to students preparing for these exams -- start now. Do not wait for the notification. The PET syllabus does not change much year to year, so start solving previous year papers today.

Ek baat aur. There are always rumours floating around on WhatsApp and Telegram about "UPSSSC exam cancel ho gaya" or "date change ho gayi." Please, only trust information from the official website -- upsssc.gov.in. I have seen students get unnecessarily stressed because of fake forwards. Seedha official site check karo, bas.

District Employment Offices -- Don't Ignore the Purana System

Every district in UP has a Zila Seva Yojana Karyalaya, which is the District Employment Office. A lot of young people think these are outdated and useless. Galat. In 2026, all 75 district offices are digitally connected to the central Seva Yojana database. They are not what they used to be.

What do these offices do? They maintain a registry of job seekers, issue employment registration certificates, and connect employers with candidates. Here is one thing most people don't know -- certain state government posts still require employment exchange registration as a prerequisite. If you do not have it, you cannot even apply for those posts. So getting registered is simply smart.

Beyond that, these offices offer free career counselling and vocational guidance. Main Prayagraj ke office gaya tha, wahan ek dedicated counsellor hai jo students ko batata hai ki unki qualification ke hisaab se kaunsi schemes aur kaunsi trainings available hain. Free hai, koi fee nahi. Bus jaake baithna hai.

Registration is now both online and offline. You can do it through the Seva Yojana portal or walk into the office with your documents. Keep your Aadhaar, educational certificates, caste certificate (if applicable), income certificate, and domicile certificate ready.

MSME and Self-Employment -- Naukri Nahi Chahiye Toh Khud Ka Kaam Shuru Karo

Not everyone wants a 9-to-5 job, and the UP government knows that. The state has been pushing MSME development hard, and the results are showing. I visited the ODOP (One District One Product) exhibition in Lucknow in December, and honestly, I was impressed. Chikan work from Lucknow, brassware from Moradabad, glass bangles from Firozabad, leather from Kanpur -- all these traditional crafts are getting organized support now.

Let me break down the self-employment schemes one by one because this is where a lot of people get confused.

Mukhyamantri Yuva Swarozgar Yojana: This is for setting up a manufacturing unit. You can get a loan up to Rs 25 lakh, and the state government gives a 25 percent margin money subsidy. Matlab if your project costs Rs 20 lakh, the government puts in Rs 5 lakh and you only need to arrange the rest through bank loan. Age limit is 18 to 40, and you must be a UP domicile with no bank defaults.

One District One Product (ODOP): This is specifically for artisans and small manufacturers making traditional district-specific products. Each district has one identified product. Gorakhpur has terracotta, Bhadohi has carpets, Varanasi has silk weaving. You get subsidized loans, marketing support at exhibitions, and help with quality certifications like ISO and GI tagging. Maine Bhadohi mein ek carpet weaver se baat ki -- Mohammed Irfan, who got a Rs 3 lakh loan under ODOP. He hired two more workers and now exports to buyers in Delhi. "Pehle middleman sara paisa khata tha, ab directly order aa raha hai," he told me.

Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana: For traditional artisans and craftsmen -- carpenters, blacksmiths, potters, weavers, cobblers. You get a free modern toolkit relevant to your craft, training to upgrade your skills, and loans up to Rs 2 lakh at subsidized rates. This one is really good for people who already have the skill but lack the equipment.

PM Mudra Yojana: This is a central scheme but operates through state-level banks in UP. Collateral-free loans up to Rs 10 lakh under three categories -- Shishu (up to Rs 50,000), Kishore (Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh), and Tarun (Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh). No guarantor needed, no property mortgage needed. If you have a solid business plan, any nationalized bank branch can process this.

UP Start-up Policy 2.0: For the tech-savvy crowd. If you have a technology-based business idea, you can get seed funding, incubation space, mentor access, and relaxed regulations under this policy. The state has set up incubation centres in Lucknow, Noida, and Varanasi. I met a duo from IIT-BHU who built an agri-tech app and got Rs 15 lakh seed funding through this policy. "We were going to go to Bangalore," one of them said, "but UP ka ecosystem bhi ab bura nahi hai."

For all self-employment schemes, applications go through the respective portals or through the District Industries Centre (DIC) in your district. Keep your project report ready, your Aadhaar, educational certificates, and bank account details.

District-Wise Data Snapshot -- Kaun Sa District Kya Kar Raha Hai

I gathered some numbers from the Employment Department, and they are quite interesting when you look at district-level performance.

In terms of Rojgar Mela participation for 2025-26, the top performing districts were Lucknow (42,000 candidates), Prayagraj (38,000), Varanasi (35,000), Kanpur Nagar (31,000), and Gorakhpur (28,000). These are the urban centres with better connectivity and awareness. But the smaller districts are catching up. Bahraich had 8,000 participants, Shravasti had 6,500, and even Chitrakoot -- which is one of the most remote districts -- saw 4,200 candidates showing up.

For UPSDM training, the districts with the highest enrollment in 2025-26 were Lucknow (18,000 trainees), Gautam Buddha Nagar (15,500), Varanasi (12,800), Kanpur Nagar (11,200), and Agra (10,500). Placement rates varied -- Gautam Buddha Nagar had the highest at about 68 percent because of the Noida industrial belt, while remote districts like Sonbhadra and Lalitpur had placement rates around 35-40 percent. The gap exists, but the training is still valuable even if placement takes longer.

ODOP has been particularly successful in certain districts. Moradabad's brassware artisans received over Rs 45 crore in loan disbursals under the scheme. Lucknow's chikan workers got Rs 28 crore. Varanasi's silk weavers got Rs 22 crore. These are not small numbers. Real money flowing into traditional economies.

Interviews with Beneficiaries -- Unki Apni Zubani

I think the best way to understand if these schemes actually work is to hear from the people who used them. Here are some conversations I had while reporting this story.

Priya Yadav, 24, Jaunpur: Did a 6-month healthcare assistant training through UPSDM. Now works at a private hospital in Varanasi earning Rs 12,000 per month. "Mere papa majdoori karte hain. Maine kabhi socha nahi tha ki hospital mein kaam karungi. Training bilkul free mili, aur placement bhi unhone karwayi."

Arjun Verma, 27, Bareilly: Got his first job through a Rojgar Mela. Works as a quality checker at a manufacturing unit in Rudrapur. Salary is Rs 16,500 per month. "Mela mein direct interview hua, ek ghante mein offer letter haath mein tha. Nahi toh online apply karta toh pata nahi kab call aata."

Fatima Begum, 32, Moradabad: Took an ODOP loan of Rs 5 lakh for expanding her brassware workshop. She now employs four workers and supplies to exporters. "Pehle ek kamre mein kaam karti thi. Ab chhota sa workshop hai. Bachchon ko achche school mein daal diya hai."

Vikas Tiwari, 22, Sultanpur: Did apprenticeship at an automobile parts factory in Greater Noida. Now employed there permanently. "Apprenticeship ke time Rs 8,000 milta tha. Permanent hone ke baad Rs 15,000 aur PF bhi. Ghar pe har mahine Rs 5,000 bhejta hoon."

These are real stories. The schemes work. But they work only if you know about them and apply on time. And that is the frustrating part -- awareness is still the biggest problem.

Common Problems and How to Deal with Them

No article about government schemes is complete without talking about the problems. I would be lying if I said everything works perfectly. Here are the main issues I have seen on ground, and some practical advice.

Portal crashes during peak registration: This happens. The Seva Yojana portal has crashed during high-traffic periods, especially when a new recruitment notification drops. My suggestion: do not wait for the last day. Register as soon as the notification comes out. Early morning or late night, portal is less busy.

Document verification delays: Some candidates face long delays in getting their documents verified, especially caste certificates and income certificates. Get your certificates made well in advance. Do not start the paperwork after the notification comes. Every UP resident should have their domicile, caste (if applicable), and income certificate ready at all times.

Placement quality in skill training: Not all UPSDM training centres are equally good. Some have excellent trainers and real industry connections; others are running on paper only. Before enrolling, visit the centre physically. Talk to past trainees. Check the placement track record. The centre's grading is available on the UPSDM portal -- go for A-graded centres only.

Loan disbursement delays in self-employment schemes: Bank managers sometimes sit on MSME loan applications for months. If your loan under Yuva Swarozgar Yojana or Mudra is stuck, go to the DIC office and file a complaint. There is a monitoring mechanism at the district level. Zyada problem ho toh CM Helpline 1076 pe call karo.

Ek final baat. Maine yeh article isliye likha kyunki main roz aise ladke-ladkiyon se milta hoon jo talented hain, mehnat karne ko tayyar hain, but unhe sahi information nahi milti. UP ki government ke paas schemes ki kami nahi hai. Kami hai jaankari ki. Agar aapke paas Aadhaar hai, documents hain, aur thoda sa patience hai, toh kuch na kuch zaroor milega. Bas dheere dheere karo, sahi portal pe apply karo, aur fake notifications se bachke raho.

Rojgar Mela ka next round April 2026 mein hai. Tayyari shuru kar do.
